Lisa’s Story

When my fiancé and I me,t we both had given up on dating and finding someone to spend the rest of our lives with.  For our first date, we went to lunch just before Christmas two years ago.  We ended up doing his last minute shopping that afternoon too.  I thought it was very sweet; it was a nice and relaxing way to spend a first date.  We ended the date with a hug and he asked if he could call me later that evening.  My response was, “sure.”  In my mind though I figured he would be like all the rest of the guys I had been out with.  I figured he would just not follow through.

He did follow through though and called later that night.  We had our second date 3 days later, and our third date 2 days after that.  I enjoyed spending time with him, but I was very skeptical of getting into another relationship and getting my heart broken

My fiancé told me a week after our first date that he liked me, wanted to be with me, and wanted a relationship with me to work out.  Still…I was skeptical.  I told him that I could not say the same to him at that point.  His response was, “That’s fine.  I’ll wait.  I am not going anywhere.”

Two years later, we are still together.  Yesterday, Christmas morning, he proposed.  We had looked at rings, but I never thought he would propose on a holiday.  I always thought his proposal would have a day of its own.

We had spent the week before Christmas together and he had taken my car to have my windows tinted.  What I didn’t know was that he was also going to my parents to ask for their blessing and my hand in marriage!

Christmas morning came and we were at my mom and dad’s house opening gifts as we did every year.  As I was going thought my stack of gifts, I picked up a red bag.  My parents told me that I had to open it last.  It read, To: Lisa  From: Santa (in my mom’s handwriting of course).  My parents always have special stipulations for opening gifts, so I didn’t think anything of it at the time.

After opening all of the other gifts, I got to the little red bag.  In the bag, there was something other than a gift card wrapped in tissue.  I unwrapped the tissue and found a Christmas ornament.

The ornament in my hand was made of clay and that of a guy down on one knee proposing to a girl standing.  Our names were written on the guy and girl.  Above both was a heart and in it was written, “Marry Me?  12-25-2009.”  I looked up and my fiancé was down on one knee with a one carat diamond solitaire.  With tears in his eyes he said, “I love you Lisa.  Will you marry me?”  I was shocked!  I had absolutely no idea whatsoever that he would propose at Christmas…and much less do it at my parent’s house!

Of course I said yes.  The neat part is that both of our families were all involved in the process and all of them knew about it.  My sister has the whole thing on video and my parents and siblings were present when he did it.  I could not have asked for a better Christmas gift or a better man to spend my life with.  After all the trials and tribulations that I had been through, I truly believe that true love really is worth the wait!
